What is Reiki?
You have heard of Reiki and perhaps you’re considering taking Reiki classes, but you aren’t sure whether it is right for you or maybe your doctor has suggested Reiki as a form of therapy complimentary to your existing medical treatments.
Reiki is a safe, gentle non-invasive form of natural hands on, energy-based healing that promotes relaxation, reduces stress and anxiety through this gentle touch. Reiki practitioners use their hands to deliver energy to your body, improving the flow ad balance of your energy to support your healing. Reiki is used all over the world including hospitals and hospices to compliment other forms of health treatments.
Reiki helps to improve overall health and well-being. It can stimulate your body’s immune system, fosters tissue and bone healing after an injury or surgery, and it promotes natural self-healing. Reiki supports the wellbeing of people recovering from traditional medicine treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, and kidney analysis. It can help people who have cancer, chronic pain, infertility, digestive problems, depression and anxiety, stress related illnesses, and it can help prepare a person for surgery and to help boost your recovery period. Reiki treatments lasts about 50 minutes.
What happens in a Reiki session?
During a session, the client lies on the massage table fully clothed. As you Reiki practitioner places their hands just above your body in specific energy centers. There are 12-15 different hand positions. When you are experiencing a Reiki treatment, the person might feel warmth, maybe coolness, or tingling where the practitioner places their hands. Some people feel energy flowing through the body, while others do not notice any change. Most people feel very relaxed and peaceful during a Reiki treatment, and many fall asleep, while others have an emotional release during this process.
Reiki is primarily perceived as a practice for healing the body, but it is also a method for healing the mind and spirit. Ultimately, Reiki has the power to reunite the trinity of Mind-Body-Spirit in their optimal state of harmony. All of us need to start the process of returning to the state of harmony. Reiki, with its methods of healing both the self and others, offers the way to start taking what I call ‘the journey home’.
What to Expect?
To make sure you have the best possible experience, take the time to find a professional Reiki practitioner. if this is the recipient’s first treatment, you will need to allow extra time before the session, to talk to him/her about their reason for coming to you, and any medical issues they may have, and explaining to them the process so the client has an idea of what to expect. When working on your client, it is important to remember they are facilitating the healing, not the healer. We are simply allowing Universal Life Force to flow through the practitioner to the client.
A complete Reiki session is offered to a fully clothed recipient who is lying on a massage table or sitting comfortably in a chair. The office is pleasant. soft music playing in the background, perhaps a candle burning.
The most common experience is offered through light, non-invasive touch with the practitioner’s hands held on a series of hand placements on the body. The placement of the hands should never be intrusive or inappropriate, nor should there be any pressure. Immediate release of stress, and relaxation. People often experience heat in the practitioners’ hands, and sometimes the hands feel cool, or will not feel the energy, but it is still working. The energy is going into the deepest levels of body, mind, and spirit. Other common experiences are subtle pulsations of a Reiki session usually last about 45 minutes to an hour, with each position taking 3-5 minutes. The results are, better sleep, improved mood, and pain relief, better heal from damage brought on by stress, injury or disease.
